Loikaw Location

Loikaw is the capital of Kayah State. It lies by the Karen hills, above Pilu River. 
Loikaw is one of the least accessible areas in north Myanmar. Historically it was restricted area. Yangon Tour team can arrange you a special permit to visit Loikaw and its neighborhood.

Active Travel in Loikaw

Loikaw has wide ranges of activities for active travelers. You can spend a day trek to mountain Khaw Sa Maw, traversing the lush local plantation, primitive forest as well different hamlets. Panpet is another attraction for a day trek or mountain bike. 
Photographers often feel in love in Loikaw where they have chances to photograph the portraits of Padaung and Kayan ehtnic who are famous for their "long neck". 

Cultural Interaction

If you want to spend a day in town, make your best to visit Thiri Mingalar Taung Kwae pagoda, perched on a limestone mountain. This is one of the best viewing points in Loikaw. For cultural enthusiast, cultural museum in the town's center will make.
For those who are interested in traditionial workshop, Loikaw is famous for its cottage industry and crafts making. 

Getting to Loikaw

By flight : direct flights are availble from Yangon to Loikaw airport. This flight takes 1 hour.
By road : overland road is a popular method to reach Loikaw from Kalaw, a beautiful hill station in Shan state ( 4 hour )
               from Naypyidaw you can take a road trip to Loikaw via Pinlaung ( long drive )
               from Taunggyi ecotourism site, there is a direct road through Shan state to arrive in Loikaw too.
For a nice plan : the area is best visited in combination with sightseeing in Inle Lake. Visitors can book a boat trip passing the picturesque part of Sankar then travel onward for 1 hour drive from Phekhone.
