Itinerary

Join the Ananda to embark on your journey and settle into your suite before lunch. Guests arriving on earlier flights can enjoy a tour of Mandalay, including a visit to Mahamuni Pagoda, Shwenandaw Monastery and Kuthodaw Pagoda.Afternoon excursion by coach to Amarapura with its textile workshops and Sagaing, the centre of the Buddhist faith in Myanmar which is renowned for its monasteries, pagodas and nunneries as well as its silversmiths. A boat will take by the U Bein Bridge to enjoy the sunset with drinks. Enjoy a welcome dinner on the sandbank overlooking Mingun, followed by a traditional musical performance.

For those who wish, an early morning visit to the village of Sin Kyun is offered. This wonderful community will show you the typical life of the villagers and see a way of life seldom viewed by outsiders.Next, visit Mingun to see the Mingun Pagoda, Mingun Bell and the unusually white Myatheindan Pagoda.Return to the ship and sail south. A choice of lectures and demonstrations are on offer during the afternoon or simply relax on board. In the evening, enjoy sandbank sunset cocktails followed by dinner.

Breakfast at leisure or participate in early morning yoga or meditation on deck. Mid-morning set off by trishaw to Pakokku, a former trading and shipping centre on the Ayeryarwady with its lively and colourful market and to visit the cheroot and shoe factories.After lunch on board we drive to the Southern area of Bagan, Myinkaba Village and Manuha Temple. Return to the Ananda for dinner and a local performance on board.

Choose one of two early morning optional excursions - a balloon ride over Bagan (at an additional charge) or sunrise meditation at one of the temples. After breakfast sail southwards to Sale where a trishaw awaits to take you to visit Yoke Sone Monastery and the wooden monastery of Tha-ta-na Kyaung before returning to the ship for lunch. In the afternoon cruise back to Bagan and visit the sacred Buddhist Shwezigon Pagoda which houses a bone and tooth of the Gautama Buddha and the Gubyaukgyi Temple. Return to the ship by horsecart for a traditional Shan dinner with our Captain.

Visit Minanthu weavers' village, Paya Thone Zu and a local brick factory. Next on to Myinkaba Village, a centre of the ancient craft of lacquerware. The last stop this morning is a local jaggery workshop.In the afternoon, travel to Bagan by coach to visit some of the most important temples and pagodas among the 2,000 which comprise this most magnificent archaeological site - the Ananda, the Htilominlo and the Pyathatgyi. Finally, enjoy the sunset from the latter, where the sun sets behind the hills on the far side of the Ayeyarwady, filling the sky with a reddish glow.

Breakfast at leisure or enjoy early morning meditation or yoga classes on board as the ship sails towards Ava, the ancient imperial capital for five centuries. After lunch visit the monasteries and pagodas of Bagaya, Sagaing and Amarapura by horse and cart or coach. Take time to visit local silversmiths and textile workshops before heading to the U Bein Bridge for drinks at sunset.Enjoy the farewell dinner on the sandbank overlooking Mingun, followed by a traditional musical performance.
